If you are planning to develop web applications on the IBM i, PHP should be at the top of your list of technologies to use. With PHP you can create fast and reliable web applications that run natively on IBM i.
As with any technology it’s important to get started in the right direction. You need to know what’s required, which tools will save you time and how can you integrate your existing RPG business logic to the web.

Mike Pavlak has been working with IBM midrange solutions since 1992 and worked with IBM Mainframes before that. After years of developing applications using RPG, CL and PHP, he managed IT and IT development for power protection manufacturer Tripp Lite. Mike joined Zend Technologies as an IBM Solutions Consultant in 2008 and enjoys helping IBM i customers explore PHP as a state of the art solution for application modernization. In addition to several roles as a volunteer with COMMON, the premier IBM midrange user group, Mike also teaches PHP classes in suburban Chicago.

During his 10 years in the IBM i market place Marcel Sarrasin has filled many roles with BCD including Technical Support Manager, Trainer and Dealer Liaison. Marcel has presented over 100 technical webinars, has spoken at COMMON and to hundreds of people looking for IBM i modernization and web solutions. He has also helped hundreds of programmers, mostly RPG programmers, become proficient web developers using BCD’s WebSmart solution.
