Congratulations to Allied Beverage winning the 2009 COMMON Web Solution Award!
Congratulations to Allied Beverage Group, New Jersey's largest wine and spirits distributor, for winning the 2009 COMMON Web Solution Award. Allied worked with its IBM Business Partner, Strategic Business Systems, to create an advanced e-commerce application, featuring product ordering, live inventory levels and pricing, and a full-text search of Allied's extensive product catalog. The application was built with Zend Framework and runs entirely on Allied's IBM i, accessing db2 and Allied's time-tested RPG-based logic.

ZendCon 2009 is announced!
ZendCon, the premier PHP conference, will be held October 19-22 in San Jose, California. If you're a developer, system administrator, IT manager or PHP community member, we invite you to learn best practices, get a glimpse of new technologies and network with peers from around the world.

Open Source application adoption is on the rise, according to IDC and Forrester
I was presenting to a full house at the Pentaho Partner summit yesterday talking about open source's inflection point. Over the last nine to twelve months, we've seen a change happening, what I call the perfect storm for open source:
- Open source software is good enough (and in some cases, better than closed)
- The LAMP stack has been widely proven in IT
- Cost savings of up to 90 percent on TCO
- Global IT budgets are down by 10 percent
