Zend Collaborates With PayPal to Strengthen PHP Web Services
Open Source Community Gains Significant Enhancements to the PEAR::SOAP Module
CUPERTINO, CA - June 21, 2005 - Zend Technologies, Inc., the PHP company, and creator of products and services supporting the development, deployment and management of PHP-based applications, today announced it collaborated with PayPal, a leading online payment company, to contribute updates to the open source PHP SOAP project, delivering a new version of PEAR::SOAP. PEAR::SOAP version 0.90 updated many previously known issues and vastly improved the module's WSDL and namespace support. By giving these improvements back to the PHP community, developers worldwide are better able to work with all Web Services from their PHP applications.
"Working with Zend's PHP experts, we were able to make improvements to the PEAR::SOAP project and contribute them back to the Open Source community," said Dave Nielsen, Manager, PayPal Developer Network, www.paypal.com/pdn. "This contribution benefits PayPal developers and the entire PHP 4 community by advancing its Web services support."
Zend is committed to improving PHP 4 support for Web services while also providing an upgrade path to PHP 5. The new contributions to the PHP SOAP project will enable PHP 4 developers to use PayPal's Web services-based features.
The contributions also support PayPal's new software development kit (SDK), which was released this week. The SDK includes sample code and applications that support PayPal's application programming interfaces (APIs), and helps developers to more easily integrate with the PayPal platform. The SDK is available from http://www.paypal.com/sdk.
"Zend's goal has always been to provide a foundation for developers to build upon, lending them the support needed to create and deploy stable, comprehensive, enterprise-ready solutions," said Michel Gerin, vice president of marketing for Zend Technologies, Inc. "This effort demonstrates Zend and PayPal's commitment to PHP developers, and the PEAR::SOAP enhancements translate to extraordinary benefits for the Open Source community at large."
PayPal enables any individual or business with an email address to securely, easily and quickly send and receive payments online. PayPal has 71 million account members worldwide and is available in 56 countries.
