Q: How many licenses of Zend Server Cluster Manager will I need?
You need one license of Zend Server Cluster Manager for every server managed in the cluster. Thus, for a 3 node cluster, you would need 3 licenses of Zend Server Cluster Manager (in addition to needing 3 licenses of Zend Server).
Q: Can I install Zend Server Cluster Manager on a server that already has Zend Server installed on it?
No. Zend Server Cluster Manager must be installed on a server that does not have Zend Server running on it.
Q: What happens to my application if Zend Server Cluster Manager goes down?
If Zend Server Cluster Manager goes down, your applications will still operate seamlessly. Zend Server Cluster Manager is required in order to manage the initial configuration of the cluster, and to configure new servers joining the cluster. However, if Zend Server Cluster Manager becomes unavailable, all Zend Server instances will continue to function. All services including Session Clustering, Job Queue, Caching etc. will continue to function, except for Monitoring and Code Tracing - both of which require the MySQL DB to be functioning. If the MySQL DB is on the same machine as Zend Server Cluster Manager , and this machine becomes unavailable, Monitoring and Code Tracing data will be not be logged - but this should have no effect on normal web site operation.
Q: Does Zend Server Cluster Manager work with older versions of Zend Server?
No. Zend Server Cluster Manager requires Zend Server 5.0.2 and above.
Q: Why is it that when I add a server to a cluster I can no longer access the Zend Server interface on that server?
Once a server becomes a member of a cluster, Zend Server Cluster Manager governs all configuration settings and monitoring, to ensure consistency throughout the cluster.
Q: When installing Zend Server Cluster Manager, why am I asked for two different license keys?
One license key is for the managed Zend Server instance, while the second is used for Zend Server Cluster Manager itself.
Q: Can I use Zend Server Cluster Manager to manage Zend Server CE?
No, Zend Server Cluster Manager only works with the full Zend Server product.
Q: Can I use Zend Server Cluster Manager to manage Zend Server without a license for Zend Server?
No, you must have a license (either trial or purchased) for every Zend Server instance that you wish to manage with Zend Server Cluster Manager, in addition to the license (either trial or purchased) for Zend Server Cluster Manager itself.
