Save My Seat
According to the 2026 PHP Landscape Report (available April 14!), PHP remains one of the most widely used open source languages on the modern web. It is commonly embedded with complex and multi-technology stacks, serving as a connective layer for web applications and APIs.
But, despite its continuing popularity, the report uncovered growing pressure on PHP teams. 40% are still running end of life (EOL) PHP versions, often without long-term support from a third party. This increases exposure to security risk, compliance failure, and performance issues — even as upgrade activity accelerates. Additionally, hiring and skills continuity have emerged as rising challenges, with experienced professionals becoming harder to replace as fewer new PHP developers enter the ecosystem.
What does this mean for your developer team? And how can you bridge the gap between PHP demand and available talent?
